The protection requirements of offshore wind present a unique challenge, in that these assets are some of the most exposed and difficult to maintain yet provide unparalleled benefit for power generation. As such, they can be extremely attractive targets to our adversaries and are critical to defend. How can we securely engineer offshore wind to maintain reliability, even with few opportunities for physical maintenance? These systems need to weather the test of time. This is exactly what this talk will explore by first examining the risk characteristics and then demonstrating how approaches based on the US Department of Energy, Cyber Informed Engineering (CIE) framework can help to ensure security by design. Attendees will learn about why offshore wind is at risk, how CIE can help, and leave with actionable guidance they can bring home to secure the offshore wind plant.
